We accept new patients up through age 16 years
(<17y).
Dr. Summers accepts
new patients up through age 19 years (<20y).
We will continue caring for all existing patients
until they turn 22 years old (through age 21y).
We recognize adolescence as a
time when children need and deserve to take gradually increasing responsibility for their
own health care, and to get increasing privacy in this regard. We also recognize that
individual children and families vary in the exact age and pace at which this occurs - we
therefore try to remain flexible and respond to individual needs both in terms of patient
privacy/autonomy, and in terms of the exact age at which it may seem appropriate to
transfer care to the adult medical system.
While all our providers routinely see adolescent patients, Dr. Summers
specializes and is board-certified in Adolescent Medicine, and is in charge of
supervising adolescent care and policies at our office. If you have
questions about Adolescent care at our office, please contact him via phone or email.
