New Year, New (all of) You!

This year take a step towards a healthier lifestyle with a small family resolution.  There is no greater way to ensure healthy habits for your children than modeling the behavior you wish to see in them!  Choose a small goal to make it easier to stick with.  Here are some ideas…

We will stop drinking soda & juice – switch to sparkling water, water & milk

We will drink one more glass of water per day or start bringing a reuseable water bottle to school/work

We will try one new food per week

We will try everything on the dinner plate

We will eat Vegetables and Fruit at least twice a day

We will put at least 2 colors (other than white or brown) on the dinner plate

We will switch an unhealthy afternoon snack for healthy (peanut butter, fruit, cheese & crackers)

We will Eat Breakfast!

We will go grocery shopping as a family

We will eat family dinner together at least _ nights per week

We will put away all electronic devices & shut TV off for dinner time or other specified family times

We will floss every day

We will always wear a helmet with bikes, skates, scooter etc…

We will limit screen time to 2 hours or less per day

We will not text and drive (good for the parents and teens!)

We will find a physical activity we like to do as a family and do this once a week (walk, hike, biking)

We will find an individual physical activity & do this at least 3 times per week (trying a new sport, jump roping, running)

We will find an indoor physical activity to help stay active during the winter months (indoor skating, fitness class, yoga, interactive video games)

There is no better time than the start of a new year to get your family on the right track to a healthy future!

Wishing you Health and Happiness in 2014…Children’s Medical Office
